Through the years, the Philippine film industry releases movies that longs to capture the attention of the masses. Their mission is to wield an influence over the audience to promote actors, the products they endorse, or even the story itself. The movies that are usually named the “highest grossing Filipino films” are the ones with the genre of comedy, romance, or horror. According to Ed Umbao, Jerrold Tarog’s historical film Heneral Luna was one of the country’s top grossing movie with more than P170 million in box office income and its producers declared it as the “highest grossing historical film of all time”. Truly, this event left a mark in the history of Philippine film industry.

The cinematography of Heneral Luna was completely outstanding. The large cast of the movie was well-chosen and was able to portray their roles well. According to Rick Olivares, everyone was given proper time to flesh out their personalities and be the characters of the 19th century. Based on all the historical reports about Luna, John Arcilla captured the fiery officer’s personality perfectly. He also shifted from that gruff exterior to a gentler person when around the ladies. This common trait can be seen even in the Filipino males of today. Mon Confiado had also shown Aguinaldo not as a villain, but as a person who only wants to preserve himself and the power he holds. Epi Quizon was magnificent as Apolinario Mabini. Like Confiado’s Aguinaldo, he is pensive but he is quick to make his thoughts known. In spite of Mabini being immobile due to the ravages of polio, Quizon brought a regal bearing aura to the Prime
