Henry Ford changed the world with his inventions and his contributions to society. Ford created the Ford Model T and made it available to all citizens. The Ford Motor Company set their minimum wage at five dollars an hour. He changed the workdays from nine hours to eight hours, creating 3 shifts throughout the day and he was one of the first employers to adopt the five-day workweek. Ford was a philanthropist trying to help the world with his fortune. Henry Ford was a captain of industry.
Before we find out why Henry Ford was a captain of industry, we need to know how he got there. Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in Springwells Township, Michigan. Henry went to school in a one-room schoolhouse until the eighth grade. He did poorly in school and showed no interest in education. He preferred to tinker with watches instead of learning about the material that the teacher was giving. After that, he went to Detroit to become an apprentice machinist. It also allowed the first, second, and third shift factory days to be made, which we still use today in many factory jobs. When Ford and his company adopted the five-day workweek, it gave more downtime for the employees. Henry thought that giving his workers more time off would give them more opportunities to spend their money and expand the American economy.
