Robert Mcmillian’s “Her Code Got Humans on the Moon” informational text is about a woman who assists the Apollo Space Program in succeeding in the moon race. “The Women of Hidden Figures” written by Jessica Mcbirney is a short story about three women who worked behind the scenes of the Space Race in the 1960s. The women all had something in common while working at NACA/NASA. Each woman faced challenges due to prejudice based on race and gender. The author then writes, “...programming meant punching holes in stacks of punchcards.” (Mcmillian, 2). Hamilton had to do this boring job, while the guys got to program the actual spacecraft. This is very unfair to me. Hamilton got an entirely different job because the guys refused to give her the same job as them, just because she had a different gender. The “Women of Hidden Figures” revolves around 3 women, while “Her Code Got Humans on the Moon” revolves around 1. The author states, “Few Americans have ever heard of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson.” (McBirney, 1). Right away, this proves that this text is about these three women that have been stated above. Adding on to that, the title does say, “The Women”, so it’s obviously about two or more women. According to the author, “Margaret Hamilton wasn’t supposed to invent the modern concept of software and land men on the moon.” (Mcmillian, 1). This demonstrates that this text is about Margaret Hamilton. When you continue reading, it says that she invented something she wasn’t supposed to. We should think to ourselves, oh, they’re probably gonna talk about Margaret Hamilton. This proves that there are differences between the two
