Did you know that Herbert Hoover was serving as President during one of the most challenging periods in history? Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the US from 1929 to 1933. Before he entered into politics he was a very successful businessman and engineer, and he made significant contributions to humanitarian causes during World War I. When he was president, he faced many challenges of the Great Depression, and his response to the crisis was disagreeable around the world. Despite Hoover being widely criticized over the world for handling the Great Depression, Herbert Hoover’s life was marked by a lot of significant achievements and challenges from his early life as an orphan to his presidency and the Second World War, during which he …show more content…

Herbert Hoover was born on August 10th, 1874 in West Branch Iowa. Hoovers’ father worked as a Blacksmith, while his mother was working as a teacher. Both of Herberts’ parents later died, leaving Herbert and his siblings orphaned. This led him and his siblings to move around from family relative to relative, finally taken in by his Uncle and Aunt. Hoover was known for being the only president to deal with a lot of things in office that affected the world. The Great Depression started with the stock market which resulted in widespread unemployment, poverty, and social unrest. Herbert Hoover’s response to this crisis was criticized from all over the world, Nicola Garcia. "Hoover and the Depression", states, “Historians debate whether Hoover's intervention was too much or insufficient, too late or premature. Insofar as his policies limited international trade and thus failed to restore opportunities for wealth creation, Hoover can be blamed for the ongoing Depression.” Hoover tried to make policies for his citizens but those policies just made everything worse than it already was. Hoover gave out more taxes, and while he was trying to stimulate the economy, the unemployment rates continued to rise and the country fell deeper into debt.
