Herbert Hoover Herbert Hoover the 31st president of the United Stated was born August 10th, 1874 in West Branch, Iowa. His mother was a teacher and his father was a blacksmith he had been orphaned at the age of nine. In Oregon he had been primarily raised by his uncle(History.com Staff, 2,3). Then later in his life after he had attended the Quaker schools he had gone to Stanford University in 1891. He had been one of the many students who attended college that year. Graduating with a degree in geology, and also mining engineer (“Herbert Hoover”, 2). He had then married Lou Henry and then had two sons who were named Herbert and Allen. During that time he had also try help supply many Belgium people with food(History.com Staff, 3,4). He had wanted to keep money in people's pockets and try to keep people working. He had tried to persuade business leaders to not cut wagers or lay off workers (Biography.com Editors, 5). Hoover had considered a limited role for government and worried that excessive federal intervention posed a threat to capitalism. He vetoed several bills that would have provided direct relief to struggling Americans (History.com Staff, 8). Most of Hoover's idea’s hadn’t helped the Great Depression, in some people's options he had just made it much worse (Biography.com Editors, 5). Some people blame Herbert for the Great Depression but Hoover had blamed it on a factors that weren’t in his control(Biography.com Editors, 6). As Herbert’s term had been coming to an end he had tried to run for a second term but, had lost to Franklin Roosevelt.
