Herb's Role In The Movie 'Miracle'

The movie, Miracle, is a heartfelt movie about the United States Olympic Hockey team adjusting to their new coach, their teammates, and the environment around them. Throughout the movie the head coach, Herb, was not the easiest person to please. He was a leader throughout the movie for his team, and his family. The assistant coach, Craig, was having trouble adjusting to Herb’s way of coaching, but trusted his leadership skills. Coach Herb had assembled his team with a unique and brash style of coaching that took the hockey players to win the Olympics. Although it took a while for role emergence from the team, the coach made it clear how it was going to be. The captain or task leader of the hockey team would be Jim Craig who was the goalie. During the movie, Jim is the player on the ice that oversees the rink, and everyone in it. He guides and tells the rest of the players on the ice what to do and where to go. Whenever the team had a problem or inconvenience, then they would go to Jim. If there was anything the team was concerned about that needed to be told to the coach then Jim would be one to be the voice for them as a whole. Another task leader and social emotional leader on the team was Mike Eruzione who wasn’t the best player, but a quality leader. He was personable, perceptive, and willing to speak up. He was known for pleasing his teammates regardless of their differences on or off the ice. Throughout the movie there was a scene where Herb had invited a new guy to play and practice with the team meaning he would still have to cut one more person off the team which frustrated Jack. He had started making petty accusations of the new player coming off as the central negative for a while. When the team has questions or concerns, they would turn to the assistant coach, Craig, as the information provider. Each person on the team developed a role, regardless of how big or small, and at the end they worked well together as a team once they understood the concept that Herb was teaching
