Santiago is a man with heart for what he does. He loves to fish. He is going out and proving himself. Santiago does believe in himself but he still needs help from the others in his life. This is a novella written by Hernest Hemingway. The novella is about a man who is going out and proving himself as a fisherman. He loses a close friend that works alongside him named manolin. Santiago does have confidence in himself. He has gone out by himself to catch the fish of his life to prove the people in the city wrong and have even more confidence in himself. To believe in himself even more santiago thinks of some of his past time of catching fish. ”I could go with you, we have made money before”(Hemingway 1) This shows that the others in his life believe in hom.
