1. Oedipus Rex was tragedy play written in 430 B.C.E. by Sophocles then translated by F. Storr. Oedipus the King takes place in Thebes and the Oedipus at the Colonus happens nears Athens. The environment for these characters is in the Heroic Age. This time period the Greek gods have left plant Earth and relocated to Mount Olympus. Now the world is left with heroes like Oedipus. Life for a lot of people was starting to look bleak as the pelage was upon them. Daily life for the people of Thebes were melancholy and gray. His role is very crucial to so many scenes within the plays. He has a wife names Eurydice, who he takes pride in, and a sister named Jocsata. Creon also has a son named Haemon who only appears in the Antigone. Creon is very important therefore taking him out of the plays would make the stories unimportant and not exciting. Creon really represents the power of law for the humans. This power of giving the humans an orderly and stable society that the humans yern for. Without the rules and overpowers humans would turn into chaos. Creon takes full advantage of this and becomes great at manipulation. Creon is one to dissemble greatness. Although Jocasta pleads him not to, Creon turns his manipulation charm on to convince that he has no desire to usurp the king. Creon is very conniving thought the whole play. They come out when it seems that they are trying to meet status quo. The Chorus give off a feeling that people learn though their sufferings. During Oedipus death the Chorus does not express much sympathy or great struggles, however they do try to make the play seem hopeful. In the ending of Oedipus at Colonus the Chorus expresses that there is nothing to left to say. This is because everything is in the hands of the Greek gods. The Chorus preaches the understandment of fate for others that is held not humans. As the Chorus reacts very well to the events that are happening on stage it says more than one thing. They react certain ways so lessons can be thought and how the audience should interpret
