Heroism in Epic Poems Heroism was very common in epic poems. It was found in almost every epic poem written. Beowulf is an example of an epic poem about heroism. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is also about heroism. Both themes are very similar. Both epics touch on central heroic figures. There is a constant fight between good and evil. Sir Gawain and Beowulf have an adventure in the epic poem. In the epic poem of Beowulf, Beowulf is the protagonist and Grendel’s mother is the antagonist. In this poem there is a constant fight between Grendel’s mother and Beowulf. In the end, Beowulf defeats Grendel’s mother and keeps his kingdom safe. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Gawain is the protagonist. The Green Knight is the antagonist.
