In his Novel, The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne suggests that the likeness of his main character, Hester Prynne, holding her baby bears semblance to the ever famous image of the Divine Maternity, an image depicting the virgin Mary holding her divinely conceived child.
