The question “Is Hester Prynne guilty?” has been up in the air. Hester has committed a crime, sinned to her Puritan religion, and refused to state the identity of the father of her daughter. Hester is without a doubt guilty for all the reasons stated above. Hester and her husband married in the Puritan religion. She then sinned by committing adultery. Hester had a baby that was not from her husband, which of course was wrong. She lied by not staying committed to her marriage and husband. She knew what the consequences of cheating would bring, and she went ahead and did it anyways. Giving her prison time and for her to wear the scarlet letter was the right way to handle it. Hester will be known for what she has done. Everyone will know that she committed a huge crime. “A wise sentence!” remarked a stranger, gravely bowing his head. “Thus she will be a living sermon against sin, until the ignominious letter be engraved upon her tombstone. It irks me, nevertheless, that the partner of her iniquity should not, at least, stand on the scaffold by her side. But he will be known! He will be known!” (Nathaniel Hawthorne 53) Hester Prynne had a daughter that she named Pearl. That baby isn 't from the man she married. When she was being interviewed she didn 't want to give up the father of her baby’s name. She wouldn’t give the identity of him. “I will keep thy secret, as I have his,” said Hester” (Nathaniel Hawthorne 63). That 's the last reason why Hester Prynne is a hundred percent guilty of everything she 's charged for. Hester Prynne is guilty as charged for committing a sin towards her Puritan religion, committing adultery, and refusing to give up the identity of Pearl’s father. Hester deserved the punishment she was given. She knew what cheating would turn into, and the consequences of it, but she did it anyway. Thank you for taking the time to read this
