The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a narrative revolving around the historical events of the fictional character Hester Prynne. Hester is a young Puritan woman who has been convicted of having an adulterous relation after becoming impregnated by a man in the recently settled colony of Boston, Massachusetts.
