The Scarlet Letter is a classic, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a fictional story. The setting in the exposition of the book starts off in Boston, in the seventeenth century, then into a Puritan settlement. I have been to Boston before, but only for a few hours, and it seemed really loud, which I like. During the time the setting was for The Scarlet Letter, I don’t think I would like it there. Everyone had shunned Hester, the main character, for adultery, and the clergy was going to condemn her, but chose not to. Hester Prynne was a strong, brave, and open-minded woman. She had brown hair with brown eyes, and also had sharp features. She changes in the story because after she had gotten publicly scorned with her baby, Pearl in her hands, …show more content…

Pearl is a mischievous and moody person. Pearl also finds things out quickly for her age that most people don’t see and is also wise for her age. Roger Chillingworth was Hester Prynne’s older husband. He is a terrible person and very bad. He ignored Hester from when they were together. When he comes back to Boston months after Hester, he disguises himself as a doctor, and doesn’t reveal to anyone who he really is except Hester, who figures it out on her own. He’s evil because he mentally tortured his patient, Arthur Dimmesdale. I would never want to be friends with him because he’s evil. He doesn’t care about justice, he only cares about revenge. He tortures people, and I don’t think I would ever become friends with a monster such as him. Arthur Dimmesdale was Hester’s lover. He used to go to Oxford University. Because of his sins, he can connect to others and be a passionate and powerful speaker. No one finds out he is Hester’s lover because they don’t reveal it to anyone, but Chillingworth finds out on his own. I think I would become friends with him because he gives good advice and listens to everything you say. He’s also a nice person and brave for bringing Hester and his daughter, Pearl onto the scaffold and tells everyone who he really was. I liked Pearl and Dimmesdale because of their personality. Pearl would give your life some spunk and Arthur …show more content…

Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, and Roger Chillingworth all committed sins. One person, however, committed a bigger sin than all. Dimmesdale and Hester were lovers even though Hester had a husband. Dimmesdale didn’t tell anyone that he was the lover, which was a sin. Hester had committed adultery, which is also a sin. Chillingworth had tortured Dimmesdale, which is considered a sin. He wouldn’t stop even though Hester had asked him to stop. He loved revenge, which is also a sin. From this story, I learnt that revenge can make you dangerous, it can make you evil. Always try to get justice, never vengeance. I liked this book, but I couldn’t understand most of the language. It was English, but since it was written a long time ago, it was written with old language. I dislike romance, books and movies, but to me, this story wasn’t that romantic. It was mainly about revenge and sin. I would recommend this book to others because it’s not like an old book which is all about history, it has big events in it and drama. Also, even though it’s a fictitious story, it still gives you some information about the Puritan settlement, and how Boston was then. Plus, usually stories without romance, unless the genre is fantasy or action, there’s no big things in the story, and in The Scarlet Letter, because it gives you a hint of romance, it keeps you entertained, and the narrator’s humor keeps you
