Scott Hudson is a freshman in high school who has to deal with his friends breaking apart, bullies, and his soon to be brother. After his first day of high school, Scott realizes it would have been helpful to have a guide. Although Scott is not looking forward to having a new sibling, he decides to write a guide for his younger brother. In Sleeping Freshman Never Lie, the main theme is growing up, this theme is supported throughout the book by using the characters, narration, and setting.
Many people underestimate the struggle and change of maturing and growing up. It can feel different and be almost like an out-of-body experience. S.E. Hinton does an exceptional job at capturing what growing up and developing is like in The Outsiders. Ponyboy Curtis, a 14 year-old that is part of the Greaser gang, is undergoing a time of development in the story, and one can really see the difficulty that Ponyboy has to endure during that process. Although Ponyboy has to go through this process, he changes significantly, and becomes different in the way he acts and lives.
Stargirl, is a young adult novel by Jerry Spinelli. It is told by the first persons point of view, by Leo Borlock in Stargirls school. In this book Stargirl deals with issues of conformity versus individuality, and many problems with society around her. Just like in the "real" world outside, high schoolers usually feel pressures from society to conform, fit in, and avoid ruffling feathers. Sometimes people refer to this as peer pressure, but peer pressure sounds a little bit like isolated moments rather than one big ongoing pressure.

Suicide is a very complicated event, and there are usually many different reasons why an individual decides to take his or her own life. Often, it involves a number of different people. In the case of Lydia Lee from Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, it technically was her own fault that she drowned in the community lake. However, many people in her daily life did play a role in her decision to go out to the lake in the first place, especially the members of her family. Many suicides could be linked with teen stress and responsibility. Teen responsibility can mean a lot of different things whether it is from getting/keeping a part-time job, being the “popular kid”, or just trying to keep grades up. All of these tasks are a lot easier said than done. It can get so stressful that someone doesn’t think it can be done and just gives up on life, and those around them.
