Natalie Neal Mrs.Roe English 26 February 2024 1936 Olympics When you think of Hilter you probably do not think of the Olympics, do you? Instead, you probably think of racism, prejudice, and Nazi Germany. However, Hilter had a significant effect on many aspects of the Berlin Olympics. Even though the 1936 Olympics were filled with talk of Nazi Germany, racism, and prejudice, there were still a few good things that came out of these Olympic games. The 1936 Olympics were hosted in Berlin against popular desire.“The 1936 Olympics Games were awarded to Berlin Prior to Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in 1933” (“The Nazi Olympics:Berlin 1936 Exhibition Extended” 1). “At the Berlin Olympics, Helene Mayer is the only Jew to compete for Germany” (Timothy 3). It is very interesting to know how Hitler felt about Jews. This is also interesting because she did very well in proving that Hitler’s discriminatory views were wrong. Despite letting a Jew compete for Germany, Hitler had some awful views on the Jews “Soon they were deprived of citizenship, and eventually some 6 million would be killed” (Timothy 2). This demonstrates how Hitler was such a horrendous ruler. This also shows how much effect one person can have on so many people's lives. To sum this up, Hitler’s views made the 1936 games a very uninviting place for Jews to compete. Throughout the 1936 Olympics, there were many big wins for some countries as well as losses for others. “The Canadian athletes were not popular in Berlin[...]”.
