Hip Hop music was created in the early nineteen seventies in the south Bronx by a DJ named Kool Herc who hosted basement parties which involved rhyming over instrumentals at house parties on 1520 Sedgwick Ave (Jackson). The definition of hip hop is the popular subculture of big-city teenagers, which includes rap music and break dancing (Dictionary). Hip Hop was a cool underground movement back in the day with Run D.M.C., Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Flash with a catchy beat and lyrics. Artist back then would talk about what they saw growing up, parties they went to and experienced and having a good time. Today’s present hip hop isn’t the same the artists just talk about money, drugs and women. Some artists speak on world issues and tell listeners what they are feeling and some give a fake life that they don’t live (Jackson). There are some positive artists and some negative artists in hip hop music today and its causing these younger teens do positive or negative things that their hearing about in the music. Another reason would be what type of message are they are sending out to the listeners and how would the listeners respond to the lyrics of that song. The lyrics in a song can cause violence or it can tell a real picture of what’s really going on in the world. The hip hop genre today isn’t the same as it was decades ago but it’s more of positive and negative situations in today’s music genre. Not everybody listens to hip hop music but do enjoy some other music genres and there are more genres out there to listen
