Everyone knows that classic lectures and note taking are extremely tedious and oftentimes confusing when the topic being covered is completely new. In comes Flocabulary, a promising website that has hip-hop music videos produced by people with backgrounds in teaching or education. The videos cover many topics such as the core classes that students attend in high school or even current events going on in the world. These videos may not go into depth when discussing certain topics with easier concepts, but the more broad and diverse a topic is, the better explanation you will get. This audio/visual learning experience helps students become more active in the classroom with a captivating learning experience. Every year, a new group of students is introduced into school districts; these students are part of an ever changing society in which technology is becoming a principal part in everyday life. A group of present and former educators realized that teachers were having difficulty engaging these students into classroom activities as the years went on. As a result, this group decided that this was an ever pressing issue that needed to be taken care of, so they came together to address it. When I first heard about Flocabulary, I was sceptical that it wasn’t going to be good. I couldn’t think of a way that someone could turn the equation of ‘finding the area of an object’ into a rap song. Obviously I was completely wrong, and once I watched one video, I was hooked. In the 15 minutes I spent watching the 8 or so videos that were available, I learned more than I had learned in school the entire day! I really think that Flocabulary is a great example of where the future is heading as we begin to integrate technology into everyday
