A few years ago when I was in elementary school I would watch one of America's favorite comedy shows: Family Guy. I immediately thought of it as an odd, vulgar show, yet I found it intriguing. I would always run back from school and see a new episode. It was basically the highlight of my day. All was good until one day my parents found out. They instantly turn off the T.V and took me outside the room. Ones outside I was bombarded with thousands of questions, anxiety started to overflow my body and tears came as well. My parents noticed my outbreak and sat down next to me. Profane material can be found anywhere thanks to the different interactive platforms, from social media to music stations. An example, of this material would one of the most popular genre of music for the past twenty years: Hip-Hop. The genre of Hip-Hop or better known as Rap is a creative style of music since the artist gets the opportunity to play with different beats, sounds and incorporate lyrics with rhyme and play on the world. However, when artist such as Drake and Nicky Minaj use this media to talk about drugs, sex and violence, this is where music has to censored. Children from the age of ten and up stat singing to the lyrics of this idol and imitate their actions such as drinking and using drugs. What kind of examples this? Tween and even teens should not listen to this type of music that is only polluting their mind. Artist is this genre should use their influence and power to spread better quality content to the listeners. If requirements are not meet the musician should not be able to release their music. Therefore, everyone would not be expose to indecent music that influences society in a negative way. For many the North Korean government comes to mind when they think about a censored government but in reality, this can be seen in our own country. For instance, the nuclear testing that took place during World War II. Not just anyone knew about the testing that was taking place only a select number of people picked by the government knew. The rest of the nation found out the day the bomb fell over Hiroshima, Japan. The national government was keeping the testing a secret from the public eye to ensure that the enemy; in this case the Axis Forces didn’t know about it. Now, the American public was not frantic about the crucial secret that was being held from them, on the contrary they understood that it a critical step that had to be taken in order to ensure social security. Another example, would be J.F.K’s assassination files that were release fifty-four years after the former president’s death. The content in those files could range from of eye witness testimonies to suspect of the attack. The documents were in hold for this long because the FBI and CIA thought it be better to have a period of time to go over each piece of evidence before disclosing it to the public audience.
