What comes to mind when you think of hip hop? Is it people speaking over a beat, is it the violent nature of the lyrics, or is it the culture? For me my answer to this question is all the above. For avid listener of hip hop music, I do not think that it should censored nor banned for its content. But, praised for its expression of free speech, it huge impact on the economy, and its impact on American culture. America is based on ten fundamental rules that make up our constitution. These rules are called the Bill of Rights and, the first liberty that the Bill gives us is the freedom of speech and expression. Now what is hip hop, but that exact same thing freedom of speech with the lyrics that the artist say and the expression of their feeling on the world around them. We will now talk about the impact of hip hop on the economy. Since the birth of hip hop in the early 70s most artist got their money from record sales and touring. With the birth of the internet music and, hip hop in general took a big hit. Now album sales are but secondary to most artist whom either has started their own business ventures or gets endorsement deals with major companies such as Pepsi Sprite commercials. Others get shoe commercial deals with Nike, Adidas, and Puma. In some cases hip hop artist venture into entrepreneur’s such artist to do this includes Jay-Z Sean P.Diddy Combs, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre etc. These influential artist help bring in millions if not billions of dollars. According to Forbes a bi weekly magazine that list the wealthiest people in the world, in September of 2016 Forbes listed the wealthiest hip hop artist and the top three were “Sean P. Diddy Combs at 62 Million, Jay-Z at 53.5 million and Dr. Dre at 41 million. (Forbes)”. Here Forbes shows that these three artist make a ton of money for the economy and together they bring in about 156.5 billion dollars that year
