Hiram Ulysses Grant also known as Ulysses S Grant was born April 22, 1822. His parents were Jesse Grant and Hannah Grant. Grant was the 18th president of North America. Grants parents were really involved in politics. He married one of his best friend’s sisters, Julia Dent. At a military school, which was like high school, people thought he would be a fail in the military. Grant grew up kind of poor, but when he got married, he lived on a plantation with his wife. Grant fought in many important wars in the United States history like the Civil War. He was considered to be a brave soldier in the military. In the military, Grant fought for the Union. He was a lot of different positions in the military. Sometimes in the military, he missed his wife and children so he drank a lot. He left once because of his intense drinking habit. He came back because of the union getting attacked which sparked his patriotism. Grants wife’s family had a lot of money. Grant wasn’t a good leader as president but he was a great leader in the military. He had some really important characteristics that are ideal to have as a leader.

Grant was born Hiram Ulysses Grant to Jesse and Hannah Grant on April 22, 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio. Grants parents received very little education. The year after Grant was born, the family moved to Ohio where Jesse and Hannah opened a tannery at a tannery, this was where animals were killed and then, the skins of the animals that were slaughtered and made them into clothes that people bought. Grants father Jesse made his business bigger by selling leather goods and supplies.
When Grant grew older he refused to get involved in the tannery business. He did not like the tannery business and wanted to do something else. Grant was more interested in living animals, but he liked horses the most. He was really good at catching wild horses. His father sent him to the United States military academy in West Point, New
