The United States dropped the nuclear bomb on these two islands as a “payback” for their actions that they took on destroying Pearl Harbor, a military base located in Hawaii. As a result President Truman issued the Potsdam Proclamation as a Final warning to the Japanese, but they refused to back down, they were going to stand their ground. When the first bomb was dropped in Hiroshima and Truman then asked them to surrender but they refused so they then dropped the second bomb on Nagasaki. But were these harsh actions worth so many lives, and did this solve all the United States problems. When “little boy”(the name of the bomb) was dropped over Hiroshima the soldiers dropping it had no idea of the mass destruction this would cause. In December 1941, Guam and Wake Island fell to the Japanese, then in the first half of 1942 by the Philippines, the Dutch East Indies, Hong Kong, Malaya, Singapore, and Burma although Thailand stayed neutral neutral.
