August 6, 1945 has been marked as a devastating day in history. This is the day the United States dropped an unprecedented bomb on Japan, which happened to end WWII at the same time. The topic regarding the dropping of the atomic bomb has been controversial and the decision to drop the bomb has been scrutinized to weather it was a necessity or a morality. This leads us to our next question: did Truman really make the decision to drop the atomic bomb? We have been taught through our history books that the atomic bomb was the fastest way to end the war and save the country from millions of causalities. While other theories suggest that the United States dropped the bomb to instil fear in the rest of the world, making other countries think twice about attacking them or their allies. Hiroshima was one of the first choices to be bombed because it was an important army depot and port of embarkation in the middle of an urban industrial area. They were well aware and even discussed that Hiroshima is a good target because it will be “extensively damaged” and the adjacent hills will produce a affect that will “considerably increase the blast damage ”. Another interesting factor they discussed was how the weather needs to be good because this would be a visual bombing mission. Both of these requirements were discussed months in advance to the actual bombing and yet they specifically followed the guidelines; we can not assume this was a on the spot decision because it had been planned months in advance and nothing was going to stop the atomic bomb to be dropped on
