“Montag had done nothing. His hand had done it all, his hand, with a brain of its own,
with a conscience and curiosity in each trembling finger, had turned thief.”(pg 37). This passage
shows Montag’s freethinking and his instinct for rebellion which drives the story forward.
As whole this is were Montag finally starts to separate from the rest of the fireman and begins
his betrayal of the firemen. This also continues the symbolism of his hands which Montag says has a mind of its own. The hands in the book somewhat symbolise montag 's true true desires
such as when he steals the book in the passage above. Another example of this is when is when
