All parents have their own way of raising their children. Some parents are more likely to discipline their kids. Chinese mothers tend to be more harsh than other mothers. Hispanic mothers are more lenient but can also be strict. While Chinese mothers and Hispanic mothers have some similarities, both tend to control differently when it comes to raising children. According to Amy Chua, "Chinese parents believe that they know what is best for their children and therefore override all their children's own desires and preferences" (411). Attending a sleepover or being in a school play is not acceptable to Chinese parents. No Chinese kid would even dare to tell their parents about participating in a school play because they would get in a huge amount of trouble. Chinese girls that are in high school can not even have boyfriends. Overriding their children's desires and preferences is the Chinese way of parenting. Additionally, "Chinese parents believe that their kids owe them everything" since the Chinese mothers spend most of their time pushing their children to do their best, and helping them as much as possible to become successful (Chua, 411). Like Chinese mothers, they will not let their children attend a sleepover. Like my mothers says, "You can't go to sleepovers because you have a home, where you have a bed to sleep on and blankets to sleep with" (Segura). Another thing that is alike is their rules about daughters not being able to have boyfriends. Unlike Chinese girls, Hispanic girls can only have boyfriends if they know how to cook and clean around the house. So if they cannot cook or clean, then they cannot have a boyfriend. Obeying their parents and making them proud is the way they repay their parents, too. For Hispanic children, it is not as complicated to make their parents proud unlike for Chinese
