The myths and legends are timeless and constructed from multiple storytellers. The Hispanic myths and legends have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. The myths and legends of the Hispanic people have to do with the beginnings and stories of things in life, creatures, people, and names. Origin and background on the creations, creatures, people, and names are what these ageless tales are all about. The story of La Llorona is about a beautiful and haughty woman named Maria who married a ranch owner and had two kids. “Maria was praised for her beauty but she was haughty” (“The Weeping Woman”). The rancher ended up ignoring his wife and only paying attention to his children. “She began to feel anger toward her children, because he paid attention to them, but just ignored her” (“The Weeping Woman”). One night she took her children for a walk and saw her husband with another woman. He only said hello to his children which caused Maria to get so angry that she threw her children into the river. She felt so bad that she started to chase them but could not reach them, so she threw herself into the river. People say that she know walks along the river calling out to her children that she drowned. “She cries for the children that she drowned in the night” (“The Weeping Woman”).
