What Defines History? History is what makes what we are today, without history the world would be a different place to everyone everywhere. If there was no history, we would have to make up stories of what happened in the past. I agree with the quote “history is written by the winners” (Alex Haley) because history plays a big role with all the past explorers and what they have done. If there were no explorers there would be no “New World” and no trace of history. History is a major part of we are today, we can never forget what has happed because is what makes it the way it is Between the two set of notes the talk about the Spanish explorers and the settlement of Jamestown. The impact of Columbus affected the Native Americans with diseases, forced labor, and they used weapons from Indians. The only spice he found was tobacco, it was brought to Spain in 1555. In America before Columbus it talks about what happened and who helped from his journey. It took Columbus five years to finally get permission from Queen Elizabeth to set sail in 1492. He arrived to the Spaniards who only left the ruins and no one to manage the land. On Columbus’s journey many of his men got a disease called stifles that killed many and can take many years to get rid of. Another disease that killed many and also affected many of the explorers, this disease is called small pox. Small pox can spread through the whole continent. In the second movie, Surviving Columbus, it talks about how the Spaniard’s first contact was with Zuni. They came along the Native Americans as well, they always had a peaceful land. Coronado came along to the Zunis in search of the 7 cities of gold. The back ground in each of the stories helped us understand how they both created history
