History Leading up to Civil Rights Act of 1964 The history leading up to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 my seem dull and boring to some, but to others it is not. What must be known is that whether you think it is boring or not, you need to know the history leading up to the passage of the perhaps the most important piece of legislation that helps define and shape employment law rights in this country that we know today. Passage of the law was not an easy task; something like it had never before been attempted. It was ambitious, but because of it, it is now possible to have a fair and inclusive workplace. There was no other role envisioned for Africans as they were brought to Americas, you came as a slave and that was what you were going to be. This makes it understandable why after slavery ended 246 years later the country struggled deeply.
