Who was/is the entrepreneur? Don Green and Michael Budman were the founders of Roots Canada. Born in Detroit, they both attended Michigan State University for post secondary education. Budman majored in Communications, while Green majored in history (Roots). They both attended Camp Tamakwa, a summer camp located in Algonquin Park, where they met for the first time in 1962 (Reference for Business). They both fell in love with the park and returned for many summers afterwards. Budman moved to Canada in 1969, and Green followed suit in 1972. Since the creation of Roots, many new styles and variations of footwear have been introduced to the market. The comfortable and rustic design that Roots was known for carried over to the early 80s’, and tan or brown colors were a popular choice for footwear. In the mid-to-late 80s’, bold prints and bright colors replaced the muted colors that people wore (“80’s fashion trends : Like it or Leave it!”). In the 90s’, people donned the grunge look, with large, platform boots and chunky heels. Fast forward ten years, UGG boots became extremely popular. Much like the negative heel, albeit a different design, UGGs were also known for being comfortable and many people were seen wearing the classic tan color. In the present day, chunks of the past are modified and incorporated into modern designs.
