Ford Findings Ford motor company was founded by Henry Ford on June 16, 1903. The very first vehicle Ford created rode on four bicycle wheels and was powered by a four-horsepower engine. The very first automobile sold to the public was the Model T. It was completed on October 1, 1908. With over fifteen million Model T's sold, the company started to boom. Soon the public wanted more, so Ford designed the Model A, the first car they created. The first Ford Model A was sold on July 23, 1903. To kick off Ford’s well known brand of trucks, Ford created the Model TT. It was the first truck they ever made. The company has continued to come up with new vehicles. Ford is still continuing to grow and produce it’s vehicles as a family owned company. It began in Dearborn Michigan and has spread throughout the world. The founder and owner was Henry Ford, from 1906-1918, and he later took charge again from 1943-1945, due to Edsel dying. Edsel Ford, the son of Henry Ford became CEO, from 1919-1943. He created the Model A and bought Lincoln Motor Co. Henry Ford II, was CEO from 1945-1979. He was in control during the creation of the Thunderbird and Mustang, which became very popular. Philip Caldwell was CEO from 1979-1985. He was the first CEO to not be a part of the Ford family. Donald Petersen was CEO from 1985-1990. He was known for turning around the company when Ford was struggling against the competition from Japanese automakers. The most famous of the Ford assembly plants is the Highland Park Ford Plant. It was the second production facility for the Model T, the first was the Piquette Plant. It was built in 1910 and was 2,395,800 square feet big. The moving assembly was introduced in this plant and was the biggest reason Ford was able to mass produce the Model T. The closest assembly plant to Kearney, is the Kansas City assembly plant, opened in 1951.
