The History of Racing You’re sitting on the couch flipping through channels and come across a race. Then you think, how did this competitive sport start? Who thought of doing this? Racing has really evolved from the first car, to the first race, to different types of races, and finally today’s mind blowing cars. Racing has most likely been around longer than you. It would only be right to start from the very beginning, the first car ever made. “Henry Ford was determined to build a simple, reliable and affordable car; a car the average American worker could afford.” (Eyewitnesstohistory.com) Henry Ford was determined and after working hard he came up with the Model T. Now most people think henry Ford invented the automobile, but they’re wrong.He didn’t invent a car, he just made a car that was reliable and was affordable. A race is when two or more objects line up and see which can get to the finish line first.People kept wanting a car that is better than somebody else’s.This means people want a car that can go fast.When people raced their cars, they would do one of two things. Either they would drive away knowing they are better, or they will leave the race and do everything they can to make their car faster. “On this day in 1895, Emile Levassor drives a Panhard et Levassor car with a two-cylinder, 750-rpm, four-horsepower Daimler Phoenix engine over the finish line in the world’s first real automobile race.”(History.com) Now this would just be funny to hear in the twenty-first century we are in where most of our average racecars have somewhere around five hundred horsepower, depending on the type of race. Either way this was the first ever real, organized race.This is definitely not the type of automobile racing we have
