Do you think it is fair to say that when the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers were coached by Phil Jackson, they made basketball history? Of course, the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers are two teams that were coached by Phil Jackson and will be remembered by stories and records. Throughout this essay, the information that will be given will focus on three main points of these historical teams. The first point is about how they had some of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. Having two of the greatest players and one of the greatest coaches gave these two teams that edge that was needed to achieve greatness. If you view the records of these two teams having these advantages were not always enough, but having these advantages, gave them the push they needed when it counted. During both of these two teams’ eras they were playing teams that were also great, but fighting through any obstacles that would stand in their way. The Chicago Bulls era they had to surpass three great challenges to be that team that made history. They had to surpass hall of famer Patrick Ewing and the Knicks, Irving "Magic" Johnson and the Lakers, and Isiah Thomas and the Pistons. The Los Angeles Lakers also had three great challenges to achieve greatness. They had to fight through future hall of famer Tim Duncan and the Spurs, Kevin Garnett and the Celtics, and Allen Iverson and the Sixers. Which, all of these players and teams were great, but when these two teams surpassed them claiming the right to say they are the greatest. To be honest as a fan I think a few of these challenges were a little too close for comfort, but those were the moments that made claiming that title of greatness so much more exciting. The two greatest players for each of the teams had to be great at all times, no matter what. This is the part of basketball that makes the game so much different when playing for fun instead of playing for a living. Michael Jordan, during his time he had to be great even when his father died and when retired then returned. Kobe Bryant had to be great even when he was going through a trial being convicted of rape and through controversy with a teammate. Although each player had different situations, overcoming them and still giving one hundred percent every day, made what they did on the court even greater. Sure everyone in life has their own problems, but having these problems and still performing at the level they did, will always be legendary. It is easy to say how you will react when the pressure is on the line, but to rise above expectation and perform greatness has only been shown in a few people in the game of basketball. These two players exemplified this greatness and will be examples to future National Basketball Association players. Not sure how either of them gained this level greatness, but to know that they will always be encouragement for younger generations has to be a wonderful feeling.
