From the introduction to the Salem Witch Hunt and the documents in The Salem Witch Hunt: A Brief History with Documents by Richard Godbeer, a lot of information about the scare, hunt and trials during the Witch Panic of 1692 was talked about. When illnesses happened to people, it was explained to them that it was due to witchcraft. Most people thought that witchcraft happened because the natural and supernatural worlds were becoming intertwined with each other. On the other hand, Puritans believed that this was God’s doing; they thought that when they became ill, God sent it to them in order to test or punish them. This showed that people had no understanding of the concept of diseases, germs and even miscarriages yet.

The Dead Rabbits riot was the single greatest gang-related disturbance in United States history, the culmination of one of the biggest rivalries of the nineteenth century (“Dead Rabbits Riot”). This feud was filled with robbery, prejudice, murder, and corruption. Although these two gangs clashed over racial, social and political difference, they also were similar in their disturbing yet impressive ferocity. The Bowery Boys and the Dead Rabbits were large, influential, and successful gangs, but had contrasting backgrounds, practices, and political views. These differences helped spark one of the most infamous rivalries in United
You never knew whether individuals were coming clean or simply making up a lie since they didn't care for that individual, so they attempted to cause that individual harm, Amid the Salem Witch Trials many individuals were (accused of a wrongdoing) of conversing with the fiend. Within The Crucible, many characters discuss public matters in private spaces and private matters in public ones. These occurrences demonstrate society’s natural tendency to exploit the less relevant, private affairs of citizens in order to influence public opinion and remove blame from oneself. Before the play itself begins, Miller emphasizes the common act of “express[ing] publicly ... guilt and sins under the cover of accusation” (7). Whether the guilt is deserved or not, discussing private matters in the form of public knowledge allows one to place the burden of one’s on actions on others around them. Reverend Parris first utilizes this form of accusation as he states that he “discovered” many girls “dancing in the forest” at night (38), using his sight of them as evidence of hooliganry.
The Val Camonica Witch Trials was a huge event in history and one of the largest hunts that was ever recorded. They were located in Italy during the early 16th century, with their society under the influences of banning paganism. Val Camonica was isolated from the Venetian city and different from the rest of Italy. Most documentary evidence had been destroyed, so very little information was discovered in depth. Rituals were made for the goods of the tribe, and there was many conspiracies about the trials.

In the book, The Gangs of New York, Asbury gives an exceptionally top to the bottom depiction of the New York Draft Riot. When reading the six stories in the “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” series, there is a very prominent theme surrounding the role of women. This theme is something that is reoccurring from story to story. From Irene Adler in “A Scandal in Bohemia,” to Helen Stoner in “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” Doyle portrays women as vulnerable victims. I believe the similarity between each story lays in the descriptions that Doyle gives to his characters. One example that comes to mind is in “A Scandal in Bohemia,” when Doyle says in a case of a fire, woman will stereotypically run to their most prized possessions.
