CHAPTER ONE The Schutzstaffel Hitler 's reign of power in Germany began January 30, 1933. This was to be the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in modern history. The Schutzstaffel or what is commonly referred to as the SS, was primarily established as a protection squadron and known throughout Nazi Germany as the Black Shirts. The SS was a central organization within the Third Reich 's power structure.
During a military conference, on July 21, 1940, Hitler declared war against the Soviet Union. The code name was Barbarossa and the goal was to obtain more “Lebensraum”, which means living space, for the Germans. Several factors of the war against the Soviet Union caused Hitler not to be able to have power over the land. Hitler did not agree with the German Army High Command (OKH) that Moscow was a priority to take over during the war. He also did not to listen to his general Jodl, who was in charge of the combined services command staff, who suggested that he go to Moscow at the beginning of the war.
Throughout the 1930s, countries who were upset over the outcome of World War I started to take aggression toward the other countries who had oppressed them through the Treaty Of Versailles. When Germany was defeated they became embarrassed and wanted to prove their superiority to other countries. However, Germany was in severe debt from World War I. As they struggled through financial ruin, many citizens were frustrated with the situation they faced and were extremely unhappy. This allowed the Nazi party and Hitler to rise to political power in Germany. Hitler was determined to restore glory to Germany and enact revenge on the countries that embarrassed them.
It is widely thought the only way somebody can truly learn from their mistakes is through correctional punishment. After WWI the Treaty of Versaille was used to punish Germany for the carnage it caused during WWI; however, the punishments dished out in the treaty set the stage for future conflict in Europe. The Treaty of Versaille set the stage for WWII by seizing German lands, limiting the size of Germany’s military, forcing Germany to pay large financial reparations, and placing the blame for WWI completely on Germany. The Treaty of Versailles seized several areas of Germany that produced goods that were vital to its economy. This contributed to Germany’s financial destruction post WWI.
In the novel night, Elie Wiesel discusses how the Nazi army dehumanizes the Jews. In the beginning, Moishe the Beadle came back and told them that “Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns” (6). The army took those lives of innocent babies, that one day could have been something. They treated the babies like they were clay targets.
However, they both knew that this wasn’t true, they would eventually attack each other, the pat just bought them time. Hitler too would make the mistake in attacking Russia, he too would begin to spiral downward. Hitler lost in Russia due to being unprepared for the war and being blinded by his ego. His troops were not ready for the harsh Russian winter, and it did not help that they Russians once again used the Scorched Earth Policy as they retreated. Hitler severely msjudged the numerous amounts of soldiers Russia had.

Chapter 2: Hitler and Nazis: Hitler’s ideology and the impacts “Darwinism by itself did not produce the Holocaust, but without Darwinism... neither Hitler nor his Nazi followers would have had the necessary scientific underpinnings to convince themselves and their collaborators that one of the world’s greatest atrocities was really morally praiseworthy.” - Richard Weikart, From Darwin to Hitler January 30th 1933 saw Adolf Hitler become chancellor of Germany. Many think of Hitler as amoral, and when looking at the great evils which he committed it is understandable to see why one would think this. However, Hitler believed that his ideas of war and genocide were morally praiseworthy, (Weikart, (2004)). Hitler promoted the extinction of criminality

The politicians that will be analysed are Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels and Reinhard Heydrich. This is namely because these were prominent politicians who were close to Hitler. To define terms, the government “having an impact” on these politicians’ rise to power would mean directly or indirectly pushing either the politicians higher up the political ladder or pushing down competition for these places in the top of the government.
