The disadvantages of the second approach are that you may find no-compliances to OHSA, employees are more productive in a safe environment so the need to work with others and not by themselves, health and safety is perceived to be low value to some organization and of course the cost of providing the resources necessary to monitor is seen as an expense which is why it’s the ones I mention are disadvantages to the second approach. Each of these approaches has a positive effect on a business/organization, in which it compliances with Health and Safety legislation. As a Human Resource Manager, you play a vital role ensuring that this happens. Not only are you to find an in-between balance but you are to make sure it is compliance with health and safety legislation. The first approach is to force compliance with established standards, rigorous inspections, and implementing harsh punishment for failing to meet the established standards. The second approach is to encourage self-reliance by providing the workplace parties with the information and resources necessary to monitor and enhance safety in the workplace. Although both of these approaches may have some disadvantages to both approaches there are a lot of advantages that come with it as well. Human Resource Manager you are required to help meet the organizational expectations so that they will be aligned, to work together with line managers, head office, and other top management so we can achieve the balance between enforcement and encouragement. By encouraging the employee to be open to discussing minor/major issues that they may have that relates to health and safety will overall prevent workplace injuries, illness, and disease. At the same time through implementing strict safety policies, meaning to make sure employee is entering a hazard free zone, the must be able to provide the environment where it’s safe to work at.
