For the class project, I chose to research Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby interests me because the owners run their business according to their beliefs. When laws go in effect that counter their beliefs, they fight for their beliefs and stand up to the government. David and Barbara Green stand up for what they believe in and run one of the top three craft and hobby stores in the nation.
David and Barbara Green are the founders and owners of Hobby Lobby. Their business started in 1970 when they took out a $600 loan to make miniature picture frames in their home. Their business grew so much that in August of 1972 they opened their first Hobby Lobby store in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. What was once a 300 square foot store grew into more than 800 stores across 47 states in the United States. The company is now producing and distributing over 70,000 products for hobby and craft lovers across the U.S. All of their products are distributed from one warehouse their home base in Oklahoma City. Hobby Lobby strives to keep prices affordable for those that are living on a budget. The products sold in their stores include thread, yarn, fabric, flowers, décor, greeting cards, picture frames, buildable crafts, scrapbook crafts, seasonal items, wedding products, jewelry, wearable items and more. The product lines vary in color, style, material, size, room location, type, brand, and many more. Each month district managers visit each store to check the inventory and safety stock levels of 100 different products.
