Holes by Louis Sachar is a nonfiction book about a young overweight teenage boy– -Stanley Yelnats who is new to camp green lake a place to diseplin and help boys build character. Stanley was in the wrong place at the wrong time, his family is affected by "a hex", which they point the finger at Stanley's "no-good-dirty-rotten pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather" he was framed for stealing famous baseball players shoes put out for charity, the story line has a lot of mini complicated plots that all add up to the bigger picture in the end. As soon as he steps on the grounds of Camp green lake they are tough and harsh towards him. A good example of this is Mr Sir how says “this is not a girl scout camp” the first thing he says to Stanley saying to toughen up and start getting use to the harsh living conditions. it gets worse from there with all the kids getting deprived from natural resources and other things like water. the leaders claim that the hole digging is to help build character although they all know that there is more to it, that they are searching to something they all just know better than to question it. “You're responsible for yourself. Throughout the book Stanley is being picked on by the camp leaders and some of the other fellow teenagers as he is new and is yet to understand the ways of how things work. , the pack leader of camp green lake X ray has been there the longest and helps stanley but also doesn't let him forget who's the boss. he intimidates him and make sure he hands any good finds to him. but mostly the bullying comes from the camp leaders they scare the kids mentally and even physically. they neglect all of them not caring what happens to them during the course of digging. the effect of the camp leaders bullying become karma as it comes back to them and the “worthless kids” come on top and prove them wrong. “When you spend your whole life living in a hole,” he said, “the only way you can go is up.” Zero said this the mute boy that's considered “dumb”. affecting everyone. The end of the book backs this up when Stanley and zero is are both left in a hole covered in deadly lizards with a treasure chest that they dug up, the camp leaders are all gathered around scheming what they will do with the boys when they die. “they will die quickly i just wish it would hurry up” that's what the warden says having only a care for what's in the mysterious treasure chest that stanley dug
