The holocaust started when Germany let Hitler come to power. Hitler gained his power in 1933. Germany was already a very judgmental country as it was, and along with Hitler they judged religious beliefs. The Nazi’s had a plot called the “final solution”, where they planned to kill all the jewish.
The political prisoners were help in concentration camps. A typical concentration camp consisted of barracks that were secured from escape by barbed wire, watchtowers and guards.The prisoners were held in overcrowded areas and slept in “bunk beds”. The people who were too sick or too old, were selected and killed by injections, gas, or getting shot. The most common way of the mass murder was the use of the gas chambers. The jews were taken into the gas chambers, and the camps workers would close them in.
Incoming prisoners were assigned a camp serial number which was sewn to their prison uniforms. Only those prisoners selected for work were issued serial numbers. Anne Frank was one of over one million Jewish children who died in the Holocaust. She was born on June 12, 1929.After the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, her father fled to Amsterdam in the Netherlands During the first half of July, Anne and her family went into hiding in an apartment which would eventually hide four Dutch Jews as well.For two years, they lived in a secret attic apartment . On August 4, 1944, the German Secret State Police discovered the hiding place after being tipped off by an anonymous Dutch caller. The same day these police arrested the Franks and sent them to first to Westerbork then to Auschwitz. Anne died of typhus in March 1945. During hiding, Anne kept a diary in which she recorded her fears, hopes, and experiences. It was published after the war and has become a symbol for the lost children who died in the
