11 March 2015 The Holocaust: Survive or Rescue Sometimes in life you have obstacles that you have to get over or knock down this is how it was during the time of the Holocaust for the jews. They were being killed because of their nationality and religion. They hadn’t done anything it was just because one person didn’t like them. So metaphorically they jews were stuck behind this obstacle for a long time. Some people think their life is hard but compared to the ways the jews were treated during the Holocaust their situation would not even come close.

It was where everyone prepared their food and other necessities for the long journey. People would often try to revolt at ghettos, but they were easily taken under control by SS Officers. There was a lot of smuggling at the ghettos, many did it just to get food or water. But if someone got caught they were shot immediately(Rogasky,121).
People that lived in the ghetto were often weakened from starvation. which made it easier for them to sick or get a disease like frostbite or typhus, Many that left the ghetto were not able to make the journey and would often just get sick and die on the way there(39). From Elie Wiesel’s perspective, he said that everyone seemed happy to leave the ghetto and move closer towards death(Wiesel,21). From author Corrie Ten Boom’s Perspective, she said that they should not have been shoved in carts and basically smothered to death.
A few years after the Holocaust Elie decided to come out and write a book about his journey. Elie’s book is very famous and he has written it three languages(Dakers,5). In 1986 Elie, won a Nobel Peace prize and using the cash award he created his own foundation-Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity(87).
