Holocaust Prevention Tragedies similar to the Holocaust can be preventable by taking simple, educational actions. The Holocaust was caused by a general lacking of education about the Jewish involvement in World War I throughout Germany, as well as a radical political party, the Nazis were given power over the government of Germany, allowing Hitler to further spread his plans of a Final Solution, which was to eliminate all Jewish people in Germany. Education allows for people to come together in a place of neutrality and discuss important topics. The minimal education in regards to Jewish beliefs and Jewish involvement in World War I caused many German people to look for someone to accuse after losing to the Allies. After joining, Hitler began his quick ascent to the chancellor position in 1933, he soon was able to control all aspects of German life. Hitler’s easy rise to power, being the greatest factor in the formation of the holocaust, makes it important to understand how he was able to slip through the cracks of the German Democratic system in order for future governments to protect themselves. It is generally believed that Hitler used the emotions of the people, by appealing to their frustrations, to input his anti-semitic and minority-hating ideals with no one noticing. A good way that a government can prevent an overthrow like Hitler’s would be to not make decisions using emotion, “[t]hey figure that by piling on the data and using reason to explain their side of the situation, they can construct a solution that is simply irrefutable—and get the other party to say yes” (Jim Camp). It is difficult to avoid a situation like this, where one party is overwhelming the other with information and opinions (Hitler) and the other party is not able to think for themselves from that point on due to the overflow of information, but a good way is to support the idea of individualism.
