Theme is the life lesson that can be taught in many different mediums, such as short story, video, ballad and many other mediums. Recently we read the short story The Ransom of Redchief and watched the movie Home Alone. Although one is a short story and one is a full-length movie they have the same themes. An example of a theme that would fit both would be Things don’t always go how you planned. This would be a theme because in The Ransom of Redchief because the kidnappers planned to easily take the little boy and get ransom for him, but they ended up paying to get rid of him. It would be a theme in Home Alone because the robbers planned to easily rob the family 's house while nobody was there but it didn’t go that way for them because they were arrested. In Home Alone verbal irony is used, but it is not used in The Ransom of Redchief. An example of verbal used in the movie Home Alone is when the robbers called the kid a kindergartener when he was actually 10. This means the robbers are calling him a kindergartener when he isn’t. There is situational irony used in both The Ransom of Redchief and Home Alone. A type of situational irony used in The Ransom of Redchief and Home Alone is the kids are smarter than the kidnappers and robbers but you would expect the robbers and kidnappers to be smarter. This illustrates that the kids outsmarted the robbers and kidnappers when you would expect the robbers and kidnappers to be smarter than the kids. There is dramatic irony used in both The Ransom of Redchief and Home Alone. An example from the story is that we knew the kid was going to get kidnapped but Johnny didn 't know. An example from the movie is that we knew the jud was setting up traps but robbers didn 't know. This shows that we knew things that the characters didn 't
