The song A Home on the Range was not accurate to life of people in the American West. I believe this because of the many excerpts, images, and stories that we are shown in Discovery Education. Though, there are many sources that would say otherwise, most of these sources had me convinced that the song A Home on the Range was not an accurate representation of the American West. Some of the reasons that convinced me were the dangerous, violent and dreary life. The people that lived in the American West lived a dangerous life. There were a ton of destruction and buildings that were crushed and torn apart due to a fire (General View). There was picture evidence of this. This is not what is explained in the song. It proves that the song is wrong by showing that the mid west had fires that destroyed things. Not everything was safe and perfect. The people that lived in the American West lived a violent life. There were many that were hurt, crippled, and one that was killed. Nat Love was an African American cowboy that was a former slave. He wrote about many of his encounters with Bison (Love). There were many storms that kept people locked in their houses for days at a time. These storms destroyed and killed crops, farm animals, and houses. Though there were nice a pretty days, not all were like that.
