Prosecuted as an adult to 45 years in prison for a second-degree murder, Miguel Quezada is hoping to get out soon on parole after serving 19 years in prison. He was 16 years old when he dropped out of high school and started to get involved with the wrong crowd. Quezada being influenced by these people, thought that it would be a wise idea to go and fight with their rival enemies. One day Quezada shot a rival gang member in the chest that causes him to go to jail. After being sentenced to prison, he started to go to school in the jail. After some time, he graduated with his high school diploma, but that was just the beginning of a new chapter in his life. Homeboy Industries is a rehabilitation center that offers jobs to gang members that just got out of jail or that want a second opportunity in life to change their destination. When homies are given the opportunity to work, they take advantage of it because they know that if they lose their job in Homeboys Industries, it's going to be hard to find another one. It is rare for someone to want to hire a gang member, that is full of tattoos all over their body, much less they are not going to be as humble as “G.” The homies go from having a fixed mindset, to having a growth mindset. Brainology states that people with a fixed mindset believe that their basic qualities are fixed traits while people with a growth mindset believe that their ability can be developed through hard work and dedication. Anthony is an example of it since his dream was to be a mechanic. He said to Boyle, “Don’t know nothing about cars, really. But I’d like to learn (76).”Father Boyle helped him out by referring him to his friend Dennis, who owns a mechanic shop. He teaches Anthony everything he knows on mechanics, and he accomplish his dream and goal. Luis went from being a drug dealer who always declined a job that Father Boyle offered him to being the foreman at the bakery. He liked to earn money the easy way instead of working hard for it, but he change his life for his daughter. He wanted for her to have a stable lifestyle. Sometimes all it takes a for homies to have the extra push in life that they can feel motivated to find the job and support and this is what Father Boyle does for all the homies that step a foot in his business.
