During the Civil War slavery was still on going and a lot people will disagree with the statement that it was the reason for the Civil War. This Monument highlights the work of the cavalry, infantry and naval forces who fought in the Civil War. It also surrounded by statues of General Robert E. Lee, General Albert Johnson, General Stonewell Jackson and also Confederate President Jefferson Davis. One of the significant men in this monument is General Robert E. Lee—the executor of the estate—determined that the slave labor was necessary to improve Arlington's financial status.”
When the story of a horrific tragedy is reported on the news, Americans may feel remorseful, but only temporarily. The thought is pushed quickly out of the mind as they are consumed with other, less important things. Rather than donating to charity, volunteering, or giving aid to the homeless, humanity looks on. This is not a recent development; Americans have been immune to tragedies since before World War II. Elie Wiesel, a man who has become a human’s rights activist after spending two years in Buchenwald and Auschwitz at age fifteen, spoke at the White House about The Perils of Indifference during the 1999 Millennium Lecture series.

May 4th, 1607, Jamestown is one of the first colonies founded in the United States. It was located in today’s Virginia and is famous for its struggles to keep its people alive for the first couple years. With about 80% of the population dead from starvation and disease, it is believed that they resorted to cannibalism.
Miss Western Days is much more than a title, crown, and sash. During this past year, I have gained so many incredible experiences, memories, and friendships. Through representing our beautiful town of Elgin at various parades and events, I have found myself more involved in the community than ever before. One of my favorite memories during this time is many younger girls looking up to me and hoping to be like me one day.
I was very honored to know that I qualified as a possible candidate for the National Honor Society. To be honest, I never thought of being in the National Honor Society. Therefore, when I got pulled out of class I immediately thought I had done something wrong. I went home that day and told my mom about it. My mom looked me in the eyes and told me that she was very proud of me and gave me a big hug.
Also, I was inducted into the National Honor Society. Prior to living with my grandparents, I would have never imagined that I would be as successful as I am today.
What does confederate remembrance mean to you? Confederate Remembrance is a hot topic hitting headlines today. Some believe that the confederacy is a sign of racism and others believe it is about heritage. The philosopher George Santayana once said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
At the end of the course, my art teacher handed me a letter that congratulated me on being accepted into the National Art Honor Society. I felt like I have accomplished something big after reading

Over the last four years, my life has been a whirlwind full of countless events. Events that have resulted in fantastic memories and others that will alway be painful to think about. My two out of state trips that I attended with the baseball team automatically stand out. During sophomore year, being about to play baseball in Florida was amazing. There are many reasons that this will be the trip I remember from high school.
I felt a bit nervous, and definitely scared. Mostly because I wondered what people thought of me as, because I’m not like other freshman. And, It was actually better than I expected. The classmates were friendly, they weren’t rude, and they welcomed me with open arms. So I guess I learned a lesson that year, other than just acceptance.
INTRODUCTION Prior to the twentieth century women in the United Kingdom were excluded from parliamentary elections and were not permitted to have a say in political matters concerning their country. On the 6th of February 1918 however, with the conclusion of World War 1 the British government passed the Representation of the People Act 1918 enfranchising all women of the age of thirty and on December 4th 1918 almost seven million women participated in their first ever parliamentary election. For almost fifty years women from all over Britain fought and struggled to secure this right. This is known as the suffrage campaign. The largest and most famous suffrage groups running the campaign were the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) known
My second rewarding school experience was in high school senior year. I chose my senior experience because I had to fix what I had done my earlier years of high school. I had to retake some classes and sacrifice my time and my teacher 's were willing to do the same to get me to pass. My teacher 's noticed my main struggles were in math and English and we made a plan of success to help me get on the path to graduate. This year is important because of two reasons reason one was it was my senior year and the second reason was that my school was closing down and there wasn 't going to be any summer courses to take to make up the classes.
The members played a big part in this personal growth of mine, as well. I was shocked when random community members would come up to me to congratulate me on a win or ask how the teams are looking. It was important for me to be assured that they care about the things I was doing. These small conversations felt like an invitation for me to start and hold meaningful conversations with adults. Some of the greatest lessons that I have taken from high school are lessons that have nothing to do with the curriculum.
