Introduction During the course of this paper the concepts of homeland security and homeland defense will be discussed as well as an in depth guide into our nations critical infrastructure. Topics conversed under the concepts of homeland security and homeland defense will be what their primary missions are, what resources are needed to address missions and threats as well as responsibilities between the two. Critical infrastructure will be covered with various subtopics. Some of these will be how it relates to homeland security, what resources or equipment is needed to protect that piece of infrastructure and how vulnerabilities can be addressed. The most crucial resources that may not be discussed as much as it should would be the homeland security agents or what is referred to as manpower. These highly qualified agents are extremely educated and conduct rigorous training to become certified. Homeland security and homeland defense also depend on acquiring and utilizing the most advanced technology to prevent and, if needed, respond to terrorist attacks. An example of this would be the transportation security administration (TSA). Their mission is to prevent any attack that may occur in the air like an event similar to September 11, 2001. To simplify, homeland security would be the agency that is trying 365 days a year to prevent any type of aggression towards the United States. During the time of a terrorist attack, homeland defense would be the agency that would respond to that type of event no matter the type. They can also respond to natural disaster events since it threatens the lives of United States citizens and its infrastructure.
