Homeless Youth Introduction
“Each year, an estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experience homelessness in the United States”(Youth Homeless Overview, 2023, Pg.1). These homeless youth deal with malnutrition, and increased risks of pretty much anything from psychological disorders to literally being abused while on the street. These are all things that limit them from being normal functioning members of society and working class individuals because of them often worrying about there absolute essentials like food and shelter. Well first we gotta solve the problem by looking at the source of the problem, the family. “Research shows that almost 7% of youth, or 1.5 million children and adolescents, run away each year.”(Youth Homeless Overview, Pg 1, 2023) 1.5 million is about 36 percent of the previous 4.5 million total youth homelessness statistic, so basically a big majority of the homeless youth population thought that the streets were better than there homes. 80% of the time this is because of either sexual or emotionally abuse going on in the household causing them to try to escape. “A considerable number of homeless youths have experienced child abuse in their families of origin prior to running away: approximately 50% are victims of child physical abuse (Rattelade, Farrell, Aubry, & Klodawsky, 2014), and between 25% and 33% are victims of child sexual abuse (Bender et al,pg 2, 2015)”. A way to prevent the kids being abused is by parenting classes and counseling to have a third persons input on it all and have monthly checkups on the family or someone else in the family stepping up and taking over the parental responsibility to keep the child safe. Making more education and career opportunities available to them will help them get off the streets faster and stay off the streets. Last we must start creating more charitable …show more content…

First off, life on the streets negatively affects your mental health and can effect your opportunities like schooling and careers which can effectively ruin the coure of a kids life. If we let this problem continue and don’t take action the united states will eventually end up paying for it and so will its people so its not a choice anymore we must take
