In the city of Jackson, Mississippi lies the mystery of a man known as Homer Barron. Homer Barron was a northern laborer worker who came to Jackson, and pursued a relationship with Emily Grierson, who also lived in the town with her father. The people of the community spoke of Homer as the Yankee from the North that did not fit in with the South. The children loved to see him work because they thought he was hilarious to watch when working and they laughed at him when he would curse. Homer was a rather tall, dark blued eyed man whom Emily fell in love with. The people of the town did not approve of their relationship. She did not know how to handle his death because she had not really had any connections to the outside world and people. He had kept her locked up like a slave and he did not approve of any men that Emily got to know. So when he died, she told no one of his death, and kept his body in the house for three days because he was her life. So then at the age of thirty-three, about a year after Emily’s father’s death, Homer and Emily were to be married. However, Homer decided he could not marry Emily because of his feelings for other men. Since he did not have those kind of feeling for Emily, he decides to desert her. With her father’s death and leaving her, Emily is pushed her over the edge. Homer was the love of her life the person she wanted to be with for the rest of her life. She thought they had a really good connection with one another. Sometime in 1895, after Homer and Emily’s marriage plans were canceled, we noticed Homer was no longer around. He was not performing any work around the town and he was not seen at all in town. This made people wonder what happen to him. It was like he was here one day and gone the next, disappearing with-out a trace, not telling anyone
