A “Rose for Emily” is a short story based around a woman named Emily who lives most of her life secluded in her house. Emily actions in the story become very sinister when she decides to poison Homer Barron. Homer is a man Emily met when a construction crew came to her house to pave her sidewalk (Faulkner 84-85). Emily’s motives to kill Homer were provoked by many things, and her actions portray a theme in Faulkner's story that is relevant in today’s society.
