When it comes to place like the Middle East where virginity and purity is valued, people are willing to do cruel things in the name of religion and their beliefs. Kristof and WuDunn (2009) stated, “of all the things that people do in the name of God, killing a girl because she doesn’t bleed on her wedding night is among the most cruel” (p. 81). Their beliefs are strong to the point that they can justify murder. As mentioned in Half the Sky (2009), people perform an honor killing which is when “a family kills one of its own girls because she has behaved immodestly or has fallen in love with a man” (Kristof & WuDunn, p. 82). in not the same as what is valued in the Middle East. Also, the actions that people take to maintain the value system are different across cultures. Most people will not commit murder in the U.S. because a female is not a virgin. In the Middle East not everyone is going to encourage education and working women. I by no means agree with what some people in the Middle East and other places in the world do to women who might not be virgins. However, many people in the Middle East are not going to agree with American values. Overall, this course was enlightening and I learned a lot about the issues women face
