Chores by Hoopla Clique was humorous and playful show that involved acrobatics and was performed at Ferny Grove State High School. During the play the humorous mood was created by the two actors Julian Roberts and Patrick Heilmann with their effective use of movement, tension of task and tension of surprise. This essay will analyse the humorous mood, tension of task and tension of surprise that the two actors created with the effective use of movement.
In the resuscitation scene Heilmann who was the actor in the Pikachu pyjamas and Roberts the actor in the Sully pyjamas created the comedic mood through tension of task and tension of surprise. The task in this scene was to resuscitate Roberts. In this scene the actors used the qualities of movement to create humour. Roberts was laying on the ground depicting a lifeless person. With every compressions that Roberts did on Heilmann’s chest, Heilmann’s leg moved up in timing with a percussive movement then his arms also moved up in timing with the compressions in a percussive movement this part of the scene involved slap sticks and tension of surprise. Both the resuscitation and cleaning scene produced humour though tension of task, tension of surprise, the shape of the characters and the qualities of movement. Heilmann and Robert were very successful at creating humour due to the way they used the qualities of movement especially percussive movements. Both of these scenes kept the audience engaged and interested throughout the performance. With the use of tension of task every scene was related to the goal of getting to use their bicycle this also allowed the audience to understand the characters better. Tension of surprise was used to keep the show light hearted and playful. Overall the Show was full of surprises and humour and was very enjoyable to
