Horatio And Don Pedro Relationship

Don Pedro and Horatio are similar in the sense that they are supportive friends. First off, Don Pedro is a very unique prince because he is humble. At the beginning of the play, he greets everyone with respect, especially the Governor Leonato who is allowing them to stay in Messina. Since Don Pedro is the victor of the recent battle, he could be cocky and view himself as superior but that is not the case. Instead he is a supportive friend and shares a close bond with his fellow soldier Claudio. They share such a strong bond that the Prince is willing to go to extreme measures to make sure that Claudio gets what he wants and is happy. One example occurs when Claudio glances upon the governor’s daughter Hero and wishes to marry her. Therefore, the Prince responds by saying, “if thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it, and I will break with her and with her father, and thou shalt have her” (1.1.303-305). …show more content…

Not only did the Prince play a part in helping Claudio woe over Hero, but he also supported Claudio when he exposed her at the wedding. After both Claudio and the Prince were tricked into thinking that Hero was disloyal, they immediately began focusing on how to seek revenge. After the incident, the Prince pledged his support to Claudio by saying, “And as I wooed for thee to obtain her, I will join with thee to disgrace her” (3.3.119-120). This quote shows that Don Pedro will not just stick with Claudio through good times, but he will also support him through bad times. Similarly to how Don Pedro supports Claudio, Horatio also supports his good friend Hamlet. At the beginning of Hamlet, Horatio and some guards discover a ghost roaming around the palace whom looks like Old King Hamlet.
